As someone who lives in Hong Kong and takes the MTR to work every day, I’m immensely proud to be part of a team that is keeping our city on the move.
I work with Jebsen Logistics, an appointed materials handling sub-contractor for MTR Corporation. In March 2014, the main contractor of MTR turned to us to support their track work and overhead line modification works at Lo Wu and Pat Heung depot. We had to handle a cargo delivery job for the Shatin to Central Link project—moving 800 pieces of 18-metre rails from the port to the Pat Heung depot.
It was really challenging to come up with the most cost-effective way to do this. For us, designing a solution always involves selecting the right equipment and taking into consideration quality excellence, safety needs and environmental concerns. Thankfully, we have an experienced team that believes in working together and sharing their expertise to create the best value for our clients.
The success of this project adds to our track record of serving the rail industry. In May and July 2014, we’ve also had the opportunity of helping MTR Corporation move eight locomotives and 10 long flatbed wagons from Chai Wan depot to Wong Chuk Hang depot in the construction of the South Island Line.
Our work is very much behind the scenes but still, the sense of accomplishment—knowing that we are helping millions of commuters—is amazing. I’d imagine that our predecessors, the Jebsen team that first brought Lufthansa to Hong Kong in 1971, felt the same way.
Even though Jebsen Logistics was only formally established in Hong Kong in 2000, our long legacy in the field has allowed us to grow quickly. Today, we serve not only our fellow business units but also clients all across Hong Kong and Mainland China. While our smart logistics solutions and purpose-built facilities (like our 50,000sqft warehouse that has been certified by HKQAA for fine wine and commercial wine storage) help us stay ahead of the industry, I believe it is our people who truly make the greatest difference.
